Manipur Earthquake: 5.2 Magnitude Tremor Jolts Northeast India on May 27, 2025
On the evening of May 27, 2025, (which was the early morning of May 28 in India), a quake of 5.2 on the Richter scale hit the Churachandpur district of Manipur, India. The area around Moirang, about 39 kilometers southwest of Imphal and 46 kilometers below the surface, was where the quake originated.

The shaking was felt in many places in the northeast, in Meghalaya and Assam. In these places, people reported they felt the ground gently shake, so many exited buildings just to be safe. No immediate reports of harm to people or major damage to buildings have come from the earthquake.
